Today was to have been the finale of the Hart Of the Woods Project.                                      Instead, the project is on hold until we are all able to get out and about, and  people are able attend Outdoor events again.  Instead, we are sharing images and films from the project.                                                                                                                                                 Check out https://www.instagram.com/hart_of_the_wood                                                We are:  to Ben Wigley (Artdocs) , Nathaniel  Robin Mann, Lisa Knapp, Martin Sommerville, Sian Allen and the National Trust folks at Comer Woods, Dudmaston, Shropshire.

These are the finished Red Deer Headdresses I have made for the project.IMG_4011

Started back in March, these three have been my principal companions over the past three months during the CV19 lockdown. And fine companions they have been to sooth my soul.  They have inspired me to make archeological  and folkloric investigations, drawings and prompted dreams.

Looking forwards to the time when they will be able to leave the studio and take their place out there, in the magical world of Art and Nature on this Midsummers Day.

May 18th & 19th.  For these two day I had a table full of masks at The Poppy and Pint.

Lots of lovely conversations about masks and peoples experiences of them, some performers but mainly from the point of view of witnesses of transformative events. The Venice Carnival came up a lot. Each day at lunchtime I did a walkabout through the main streets enjoying the public reactions to The Old Lady with her Boy in her Basket.  Many people up for engaging with her and asking her questions she can answer by nodding yes or no. Some children had fun pretending to be frightened of her, but as they kept coming back for more they made their game clear.

Nottingham Puppet Festival

Today has seen the Official Launch of the Nottingham Puppet Festival. At last we can go public with this after two years of planning.  This is a collaboration between Theatre Royal Concert Hall (Nottingham) City Arts Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University (Theatre Design Department). I have been acting as an advocate for independent artists within these organisations and will be facilitating a group to make and activate a pack of  puppet dogs.          Here are some images of the launch today at the Concert Hall.

Just a few of the puppets that were seen today, including our new ‘Maid Marion’ on her horse,  who has been made especially for the festival as our mascot by Alison Duddle.

The Main Festival will take place fromThursday  22nd March till  Sunday 25th March
